How do I get from Buchforst to Koelnmesse and the MesseCity?
Line 3 from Waldecker Straße reaches Koelnmesse in four minutes. For the MesseCity, take the suburban train from Köln-Buchforst, three minutes to Köln Messe/Deutz, and from there it is a seven-minute walk to the Zurich Campus on Deutzer Allee. KPMG and Atradius are in the same quarter.
I am on a course at the HSPV NRW in Cologne. Can I rent for a single month?
Yes, one month is our minimum and also the most common stay. The main site of the Cologne campus on Erna-Scheffler-Straße is a twelve-minute ride on bus 159 or 171 from Klaprothstraße to Kalk Walter-Pauli-Ring, with no change, and a six-minute walk from there. We issue the landlord confirmation you need to register with the city, and the monthly price covers utilities, Wi-Fi and cleaning every 14 days. Check availability for your dates
Which employers are based in Kalk?
Quite a few, and all on the same bus. Erna-Scheffler-Straße is home to NTT DATA Deutschland, Media Broadcast, the Malteser and an ADAC centre, and right beside them on Walter-Pauli-Ring sits the Cologne police headquarters. Buses 159 and 171 run there from Klaprothstraße in twelve minutes without a change, and the police headquarters is another two minutes on foot.
Does Buchforst work if I am based at Chempark Leverkusen?
Yes, and better than you would expect. The S6 runs from Köln-Buchforst to Leverkusen Chempark station without a change and takes eleven minutes, every twenty minutes during the day. One thing to keep in mind: the Chempark is large, and it is another 900 metres or so from the station to Gate 1. How long you really travel depends on where on the site you work.
And if I work on the left bank?
That works without a car too. Line 3 from Waldecker Straße reaches the Rheinauhafen in 23 minutes without a change, where Microsoft and Electronic Arts are among the tenants. The main station is six minutes by suburban train, and Neumarkt sixteen minutes on line 3.
Do I need a car here?
Not for the destinations above. Bus, light rail and suburban train all stop within walking distance, and the Klaprothstraße stop is right outside the door. By car you reach the A3 and the A4 in about three minutes, parking on Waldecker Straße and the surrounding streets is free, and if you arrive in an electric car there are charging points outside the building. If you commute to Porz, to the airport or to a plant further out, the car is the faster choice.

The district
In the heart of right-bank Cologne
Buchforst is an established residential quarter on the right bank of the Rhine and part of the borough of Mülheim. Architecturally it is defined by two listed estates, the “Weiße Stadt” and the “Blauer Hof”, major examples of the Neues Bauen movement of the 1920s and early 1930s. Clean lines, pale facades and generous green spaces still give parts of Buchforst their distinctive character.

Mülheim, Buchheim and Kalk are immediate neighbours, and Deutz is quick to reach as well. Koelnmesse is 1.8 kilometres away as the crow flies, Köln Messe/Deutz station 2.4 kilometres.
What is within walking distance in Cologne-Buchforst?
Everything for everyday needs: a supermarket, bakery, pharmacy and café are all an easy walk away. The Klaprothstraße bus stop is right outside the door, and the tram stops about 300 metres further on at Waldecker Straße, taking you towards Deutz and the city centre without changing.
How is Buchforst connected to Mülheim and Kalk?
From Klaprothstraße, bus 171 reaches Wiener Platz in Mülheim in 8 minutes, bus 159 Kalk Kapelle in 7 minutes and the I/D Cologne office quarter in 15. From Waldecker Straße, tram line 3 gets you to Koelnmesse in 4 minutes and to AXA on Colonia-Allee in around 17, changing there to bus 157.
How fast can you reach Deutz and the city centre?
The Köln-Buchforst S-Bahn station is a good 500 metres away. The S6 and the S11 stop there. Köln Messe/Deutz is 3 minutes away, the central station 6 minutes. To go straight into the city centre, take line 3 and you reach Neumarkt in 16 minutes.
